Krill oil has similar uses to other marine sources of omega-3 fatty acids, supporting eye and brain health, relieving mild joint pain or soreness, supporting heart health and helping in the maintenance of healthy blood fats.

What are krill?

Krill are small shrimp-like crustaceans packed full of health promoting long-chain omega-3 fatty acids (EPA & DHA), phospholipids, choline and the antioxidant astaxanthin. They feed on microscopic algae that contains the omega-3 fatty acids that are then absorbed into their bodies. These algae also contain astaxanthin that gives krill their distinct red colour and eliminates the need for preservatives due to potent antioxidant features. The oil used is extracted from the Antarctic krill species Euphausia Superba.

How is Krill oil different to fish oil?

Phospholipids in krill oil are believed to improve the bioavailability of Omega-3 fatty acids, such as EPA and DHA, compared to other sources like fish oil. The Omega-3s in krill oil are bound to phospholipids, which have emulsifying features thought to enhance absorption, and closely resemble the lipids that make up human cell membranes. These phospholipid bound omega-3’s, emulsify easily with stomach acids which reduces the likelihood of unpleasant digestive issues including fishy after taste.

Is the Krill sourced sustainably?

ANCs Krill oil 1000mg is from a patented krill oil called Superba 2TM which is ecologically harvested from pristine Antarctic waters away from environmental pollutants, under strict conditions, ensuring sustainability and minimised environmental impact.
